The aftermath
It was at least 20 years since the last invasion. Yeah, when you live in the 22nd century, alien invasions are common. We have had one nearly every decade. But the latest invasion was ... different.
Houses burned. People were crying. UFOs were flying in the sky-
Just kidding. That is not how it went.
Even though I wasn't present at the moment I know that the invasion was quiet. People weren't even aware of what was happening. The aliens came at night. According to our history textbooks, they always came at night. They came and swooped in; separating people from their families, taking over their minds.
However, some people knew. They knew when the invasion was going to happen and they knew where the alien nest was. They also knew the dangers of their mission. Some very brave and gallant heroes died trying to save this planet. It was a long and dangerous task which even the government was unaware of until the very end.
In the memories of the brave soldiers who fought for our lives, our school had decided to take us on a field trip to the museum. The museum was a large and quiet place; serene, just like a graveyard. It contained all the information about the invasion; from books to real eggs of the aliens. We students marveled at everything like curious toddlers as we took notes.
Soon came the moment we all had been waiting for impatiently; examining the eggs. As the staff passed the heavy, greenish-white, oval objects, I put my book down. They were glowing in the dark room. When it was my turn to hold them, my heart nearly skipped a beat. I-I felt a pulse under the hard shell. As if the thing in it was... moving.
When I expressed my concerns to the staff, they looked at me and laughed. One of the staff, whose name tag said Jenny, said, "It's been around 20 years since the egg was found. Sweetie, I'm absolutely sure that thing isn't even alive." She laughed once more shaking her gloved hands. Her words gave me no comfort. We moved on to other sections to look at other things. We looked at shelters which the brave heroes had to stay in. The conditions were horrible. I'm glad they the alien-human war was over; now no one would ever have to live like this again. Before I knew it, it was time to head back. Before I got onto the bus I remembered something; my notebook.
I went back into the museum. I saw my notebook still there. Beside the alien eggs. 'They shouldn't be out there in the open' I thought. I picked up my notebook. As I was about to turn around I heard a loud cracking sound. I looked back. One of the eggs had cracked! I didn't remember touching it. But then again, I was in a hurry. Maybe I had touched it. Once again, right before my very eyes, the egg shook. It shook, shaking all the other eggs like there was an earthquake.
A tiny human-like claw stuck out of the broken shell. "But-but this is impossible", I stammered. "Well, well. Looks like you discovered our little secret, sweetie", Jenny said as she stepped into the view. Then, she removed her gloved to display very large and very shiny claws.
And all the eggs hatched.
